Yum Food Ordering App
We are creating a food ordering app for Yum restaurant to attract and retain customers and increase brand awareness. We noticed that our competitors offer dedicated mobile apps for their customers and they have been very successful. We want to create a product that can compete in the market, improve sales and achieve a better and more advanced customer experience.
Yum describes itself as “Slow food, fast delivery”. They claim to provide high quality Chinese food using fresh ingredient, each dish is perfectly prepared with fast delivery to your doorstep. They emphasise that their app is simple to use, with options for vegetarian and kids, easy to create an account to remember your payment details and earn rewards, also lets you track your order every step of the way.

My role & Responsibilities:
Lead Product Designer
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
Our key competitor is Shikumen, which is more expensive than Yum and famous for its dining experience and fast delivery service. Kokoro is an indirect competitor, it is a low-cost Korea and Japanese takeaway that famous for its fresh prepared hot food.
I conducted interviews and created empathy map to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was busy working mums who want to have a break of cooking.
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
